Chat app

Chat with any model in the console: attachments, tools, web search, artifacts, sharing and memory.

The console has a chat app at /chat. Pick a model, or leave it on Auto and Top Billing picks one for each message. Your chats are saved to your account.

Every message is a real, billed request on one of your projects, exactly like an API call. It shows in Usage and Request logs. Tool rounds, web searches, folder files, artifacts and memories all add billed requests or input tokens.

Writing and replies

Press Enter to send and Shift+Enter for a new line. Stop ends a reply early; a request that reached the gateway is still billed. Hover a message to copy it, edit and resend it, regenerate the last reply, or give it a thumbs up or down. Reply details show the model, the charge and the request id. Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+O starts a new chat.

Attachments

Attach, paste or drop files anywhere in the chat: images (PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP; vision models only), text and code files, CSV, PDF, Word (.docx) and Excel (.xlsx). Text is read from documents on our servers and sent to the model as text, so any model can use them. Scanned PDFs without a text layer cannot be read.

LimitValue
Files per message8, at most 12 MB in all
Images4 per message, 5 MB each
Text files200 KB each
Documents10 MB each; PDFs up to 500 pages; up to 200,000 characters of text are used

Tools

Turn on Tools (models with tool calling) to let the model check the time, calculate exactly, read public web pages, search the web, write artifacts and save memories. Each round of tool use is a separate billed request; a message uses at most 8 rounds.

Web search: up to 20 searches a day (reset at midnight IST) and 3 per message. Replies show the sources they cite. Connectors you add in Chat settings are tools too; their tools run only after you approve them, unless you chose Always allow.

Artifacts

Code, web pages, documents and diagrams the model writes open in a side panel, where you can preview, copy, download and edit them. Every change is a new version. Web pages run in a sandbox with no access to your account or the network. The latest artifacts of a chat are sent with each message so the model can work on them.

Organising chats

Search finds words in your chat titles and messages. Pin a chat to keep it at the top, archive it to hide it (Chat settings lists archived chats), or move it into a folder. A folder can carry instructions and files that are sent with every message of its chats (folder files are capped at 100,000 characters per message).

Sharing and export

Share creates a read-only link anyone can open without signing in. It is a snapshot: later edits do not change it until you choose Update link, and you can revoke it at any time. A shared page shows the messages and attachment names only — never your spend, request ids, project, email, instructions, connectors or memories. Export saves a chat as Markdown or PDF (PDF for chats up to 500 messages).

Memory

With Tools on, the model can save short facts you tell it (up to 50) and use them in later chats. Each save shows a card with Undo. Chat settings lists your memories, where you can edit, delete, add or delete all of them, or switch memory off. Memories are sent with every message as input tokens.

Settings and your data

Chat settings holds your default project and model, custom instructions (sent first with every message), connectors, memory, archived chats and spend per chat. Clearing your history deletes your chats and their files; the requests they made stay in Usage and billing.
